Welcome, Randy Brady!

Yesterday, we introduced the students to Mr. Randy Brady, who has accepted the Westlake band director position and will succeed Mr. Mangelson next year. Mr. Brady comes to us from eastern Idaho, where he is currently working as visiting faculty at BYU-Idaho. Mr. Brady’s biographical information is included with this email.

We are excited to have Mr. Brady join us and wish Mr. Mangelson the best at his new school in Farmington. We are finalizing details for a meet-and-greet opportunity in April where interested parents and students can meet Mr. Brady.

Summer Schedule

Now that we have completed the process of hiring a new band director, we are moving forward rapidly to finish preparations for next year. Mr. Brady is reviewing the marching band contracts and the current plans for next summer’s schedule. We expect to have contracts out soon and step-off meeting is on Tuesday, May 1.

We know that this is later than normal and appreciate your patience during this transition.

Concert Band Festival This Saturday

The Music for All western regional concert band festival is this Saturday at the University of Utah. All performances are at Libby Gardner Hall on the U of U campus.

Concert Band performs at 12:00 PM, Symphonic Band at 3:00 PM, and Wind Symphony at 5:30 PM. Required sectionals, workshops, performances, and clinics will take place throughout the day. The Utah Wind Symphony will perform a concert at the conclusion of the festival at 8:00 PM.

Students should be at Westlake at 9:00 AM to load the buses. Lunch is on your own. There are not many restaurants nearby, so bring a sack lunch. Pizza dinner will be provided. We should arrive back at Westlake shortly after 10:00 PM.

Please remember to wear concert dress. All students should be wearing black shoes with their concert dress and men should wear black socks.

Winter Guard Competition Help

Our winter guard program is hosting a competition at Westlake High School on March 17. This is a large event that requires a lot of volunteers to keep it running smoothly. We still have many volunteer spots to be filled. Thank you to those who have already signed up to help.

Setup begins on Friday, March 16, and time slots are available for a variety of needs all day on Saturday, March 17. Please take a look at the signup and see where you can help!

Uniform Organization Help Needed

The marching band uniforms need to be organized before being sent to the cleaners. We rescheduled this and will be working on this on Monday, March 12, at 9:00 AM. We need two more volunteers who can help with cataloging and organizing the uniforms. If you are available to help with this, please contact Tawnya Mayo at tawnyamayo@yahoo.com.

Booster Meeting March 7

Our next booster meeting is next Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 PM in the band room. We will be updating our bylaws and voting to fill vacant positions in the booster program.

All parents are encouraged to attend this meeting! If you are wondering how to get involved, this is the best place to start.
