Rehearsal Today (October 23)

Remember that there is a rehearsal today at 3:00 PM, even though there is no school today.

Family Night Show

Our family night show will be held in one week on Monday, October 30, at 6:00 PM. This show will be our last local performance before we head to St. George for state finals and the Bands of America regional competition.

Invite your friends and family to come see our show at the Westlake football field next Monday evening. Hot chocolate will be provided and families are invited to bring a potluck “finger food” dessert (cookies, brownies, etc.). We will not be providing plates and forks, so plan something that is napkin friendly.

Color Guard Information

It has been a joy working with the Westlake color guard this past week. They are hard-working and eager to learn. I am impressed with this team, not only at rehearsal, but with their actions before, during, and after the performance at Davis Cup. — Mariann Liddiard

There will be a few changes to color guard process that you should be aware of. Information will be coming in the Thunder Band News email each week to eliminate the dual emails you have received in the past.

What is not covered in these emails will be covered in the new Westlake Color Guard app. Thank you to Aimie Furse for spending time to create this app for us. There has been a request to change our communications to something other than social media and we have made this change since not all students are on social media. You should have received an invitation for the app this past week.

We will be switching our communication at the end of this week, so please take time to get this set up so you have access to this information. You may ask any questions you have in the chat section of the app.

We did get permission from the administration to change our zero period color guard class to B days ONLY to help have enough time to be productive. In the past there has only been an hour of class time when the class landed on A days. This week B days will be on Tuesday and Thursday.

We understand how difficult it is to get your child to class by 6:00 AM. Please remember that this class is the same as any other class during regular school hours and will affect your child’s attendance record. Their grade will be calculated by participation points each day as well, so please help your child arrive to class on time.

Thank you wonderful parents for all of your support.

Competition Food Sign-Up

There are still a few sign-up slots remaining for food for this weekend’s competition. Please go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e044daeaf23a13-mttimpanogos to sign up to help.

Thank you for being so willing to help. We can’t do this without all the awesome parent help!

Band Bash Volunteers

The band bash is on the evening of Thursday, October 26. We need one more volunteer to help out backstage getting chairs and stands on and off the stage during the transitions between bands. Please sign up at the link below if you are willing to help out.

New Uniform Fittings

We have been notified that we should receive the last pieces of our new uniforms on November 1, the day before we leave for St. George. This is very exciting news and we are crossing our fingers that all will go as planned!

We have added a uniform fitting to the calendar on Wednesday, November 1, immediately after that day’s rehearsal. We will also need parent volunteers to help with fittings that day. We are waiting for some information from the manufacturer to determine how much work will need to be done before we ask for volunteers. If you are available and willing to help, please plan on helping that evening and we will post a sign-up sheet as soon as we have final details.

Old Uniform Moving Help

If anyone has time today (October 23) and can help get the boxed uniforms to district surplus, please text Kelly Molinari at 630-222-8362 for details on how to help. If you have a trailer or pickup truck, that would be a bonus.

Rose Parade Final Payment

Please check your Bob Rogers Travel account to make sure you are up to date on your tour payments. Final invoices will be sent in early November. We will let you know what the final payment amount will be as soon as we have that information. We are also waiting on some details and will send an updated itinerary once those details are complete.

Rose Parade Medical Forms

If your student hasn’t yet turned in their Rose Parade medical form, please complete this form and have your student put it in the manila “Medical Forms” envelope on Mr. Mangelson’s door as soon as possible.

Rose Parade Social Media Contest

The second social media contest for the 2018 Rose Parade runs through October 31. For this contest, each band was asked to provide an audio recording of their band to accompany video provided by the Rose Parade committee. The contest is up and running.

You can find and vote for our video at https://www.tournamentofroses.com/makingadifference. Please share this link on your social media accounts and ask others to vote and repost. Thank you and go Thunder!
