There are 147 days until the 2018 Rose Parade. Rose Parade fun fact of the week: It takes about 20 daises, 30 roses, or 36 marigolds to cover one square foot of a float in the Rose Parade. Covering all of the floats in the Rose Parade takes around 18 million flowers!

Pre-Game Camp

Pre-game camp is this week from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please remember to drink lots of water and wear sunscreen.

Students are responsible for their own lunch and snacks this week. There will be opportunities for them to refill water bottles, but students need to bring their own food.

We are looking forward to another amazing camp week. Come ready to learn and work hard!

Band Camp Thank Yous

Thank you to everyone who helped make last week’s band camp such a success. Thank you to our staff and students who showed up with great attitudes and worked hard to prepare for the upcoming marching season.

We can’t accomplish something of this magnitude without the help of a huge number of parents. Thank you to the parent volunteers who worked all day each day to provide meals and support. For those of you who assisted in any way from helping prepare and serve meals to donating food items: THANK YOU! Special thanks go to Becky Barney and Kelly Molinari who coordinated the food committee and were there every hour of every day of band camp.

We also received great support from Ridley’s, who donated a lot of the produce, and Chick-fil-A in American Fork, who donated sandwiches for the band. Let’s show our gratitude by supporting these businesses.

Booster Meeting This Week

Our next scheduled band booster meeting is this Wednesday, August 9, at 7:30 PM in the band room.

All parents are invited to attend Booster Meetings. Whether you have volunteered in the past or not, this is a chance to find out how you can get involved in helping with the band program. Be there Wednesday to find out what you can do to help your child’s band program succeed!

Show Shirts for Family Members

We have a few extra show shirts left over from our original order that are available for purchase. We are not planning to order more, so we are limited to the sizes listed below. These shirts are just like the shirts your student received.

If you are interested in purchasing a show shirt, contact Shawna Ivins at sivins4@gmail.com to be sure that we still have the shirt size you want. Once you have confirmed the size you want is available, make your payment and send your receipt to Shawna by email.

The available sizes are:
Extra small (Child large): 1
Small: 6
Medium: 1
Large: 5
Extra large: 2
3XL: 1

We still have a number of parent show shirts that have been paid for but have not been picked up. We will have the shirts out and available for pick up at the booster meeting this Wednesday night.

Rose Parade “Making a Difference” Service Competition

Thank you to all of the students and staff who showed up to help with our Sleep in Heavenly Peace service project. It went fabulously and we received the following message from the organizers of the event:

“Thank you so much for arranging 14 happy, bright, and helpful people to come! In total we had about 50 people come. It was way more than we expected, and it went super smoothly. We got to deliver three beds yesterday, and that was a great experience. Your kids were awesome!”

Thank you for stepping up and making a difference!

Band Fee Payments are Now Past Due

Band fees are now past due. If you have not paid your fees, please get your fees paid as soon as possible. This can be done online at MySchoolFees.com or in the Westlake finance office.

We have handed out the marching shoes and polo shirts. Some have still not been paid for. Please get this taken care of as soon as possible.

Please turn all receipts into Shawna Ivins by email at sivins4@gmail.com. If you have any questions, you can email Shawna to help get those answered.

St. George Competition Volunteers

There is a good possibility that we will be asked to provide volunteers for the Red Rocks competition in St. George this year. The format of this competition has changed and we are excited about the changes, but they will require additional volunteers to help with the competition.

American Fork and Davis High Schools have sent volunteers in the past to help out and now it is our turn to help out as well. Our volunteers will be given a schedule that does not conflict with our performance time.

More details will be coming soon, but we wanted to let you know this is coming so that you can look at your schedule and consider whether this is something you can help with.

Band Highlight Video

We have been asked to submit a video as part of our participation in the Rose Parade. This video should highlight our uniqueness and the difference we make in our community. If you have pictures or videos from any of our service projects, or that show what makes our band amazing and unique, please send them to Charlotte Ducos at cdducos@gmail.com.
