There 154 days until the 2018 Rose Parade. Rose Parade fun fact of the week: It is estimated that around 500,000 out of town guests arrive for the Rose Parade each year.

Band Camp!

It’s band camp time! Band camp is one of the hardest, most rewarding, and, some will say, the most fun parts of marching band. The students put in a huge amount of work this week learning the field show. Parents are welcome to come watch the final run-through during the last half hour of rehearsal on Friday to see what they have learned.

Please ensure that your student gets as much sleep as possible each night, drinks as much water—both at rehearsal and at home—as they can, comes to camp having eaten a good breakfast, and brings their most positive attitude. Students should come ready to listen, learn, and apply what they have learned.

The band boosters provide snacks as well as lunch and dinner during this week. Thank you to everyone who donated food items as well as time to help make this week a success. We couldn’t do this without you.

Please, remember that there are no children (under age 18) permitted when helping with band camp food. This is a district rule that we need to follow. If you have planned on bringing them, please make other arrangements for them. If you need to miss your scheduled time slot because of this, please let Becky Barney know ASAP by texting her at 914-439-7534.

Also, please make sure that you plan to stay for the entire time you signed up for. If you are unable to stay the full shift, please let us know ASAP as well, as we need to make sure we have enough people to get done what we need.

Thank you again for all that has been done to help this week. It has been amazing to see the willingness from so many.

Rose Parade “Making a Difference” Service Competition

Thank you to everyone who participated in the English Without Limits service event. It was a great success! We apologize to those who didn’t get the word that last Thursday’s event was cancelled.

The build day for Joshua Fluckiger’s Eagle Project is this Saturday, August 5th, from 10:00 AM to noon. We still have a large number of sign-up slots that need to be filled. Please sign up ASAP so that we can fulfill our commitment to him. Summer is busy and this week is band camp, but service is a great way to end band camp with a bang! We hope you will join us. Bring water bottles and sunscreen. To sign up to help with this event, go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e044aa8a628aa8-sleep.

One of our other exciting upcoming events will be to participate in the Primary Children’s Festival of Trees in December! More details for this event will be available later this year.

Also, be looking for an upcoming SignUpGenius to record who participated in the Eagle Mountain City and Saratoga Springs City weed pulling service events we did in May. Once that is complete, points will be tallied and we will know which section is ahead in our fun competition!

Please call Karen Rowley (385-539-0481) with any questions about the upcoming service activities.

Show Shirts for Family Members

Show shirts that were ordered in the spring for family members will be available in the band room after the final run-through on Friday night as band camp wraps up. We will be handing out shirts during the time that the students are putting equipment away and gathering their things.

If you did not order a shirt in the spring, please do NOT pay for a shirt now. We are only handing out the shirts that were originally ordered and are not ordering new shirts. Once all of the shirts have been distributed, we will let you know if there are any additional shirts available.

If you ordered but did not pay, please pay and send your receipt to Shawna Ivins at sivins4@gmail.com. We cannot give you your shirt until you have paid and we cannot take money that night. Show shirts can be paid for online but please only pay if you were on the original order.

Band Fee Payments are Now Past Due

Band fees are now past due. If you have not paid your fees, please get your fees paid as soon as possible. This can be done online at MySchoolFees.com or in the Westlake finance office.

We have handed out the marching shoes and polo shirts. Some have still not been paid for. Please get this taken care of as soon as possible.

Please turn all receipts into Shawna Ivins by email at sivins4@gmail.com. If you have any questions, you can email Shawna to help get those answered.

Rose Parade Tour Payment Reminder

As we get closer to the Rose Parade, we want remind you of the upcoming payments and highlight information about the final payment so that you are not caught unaware. As is customary with these tours, the final payment amount has not been determined so that any remaining adjustments can be made prior to the final payment.

If you add up the payment amounts up to the final payment, the amount remaining for the final payment will be just over $500. This does not include any fundraising money that we are able to apply. This is a big jump from the $150 payment that we have been making, so we wanted to remind you so that you can be prepared for this.

Once our payments for the new uniforms are complete, we will evaluate what remains from our fundraiser and whether there is additional money that can be used to offset a small part of this final payment. If you have questions about this information, contact Charlotte Ducos at cdducos@gmail.com.

Booster Meeting

Our next scheduled band booster meeting is on Wednesday, August 9, at 7:30 PM in the band room. Booster meetings are normally held on the first Wednesday of the month, but the August meeting has been moved because of band camp week.

All parents are invited to attend Booster Meetings. If you want to know more about how the booster organization is run, find out how you can get involved, or help in the decision-making process, come to the booster meeting. We hope to see you there!
