There 231 days until the 2018 Rose Parade. Rose Parade fun fact of the week: The song played most often by bands in the Rose Parade is “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.”

Rose Parade President Visit

Lance Tibbet, the 2018 Tournament of Roses president, will be visiting the Westlake Marching Thunder this week! Here is the schedule of events that we are inviting students and parents to participate in.

On Friday, May 19, meet at Westlake at 5:20 AM (yes, you read that correctly) to participate in Fox 13’s Cool School of the Week. Wear your Westlake gear and be there on time to cheer, have fun, and represent the band.

On Saturday, May 20, meet at Westlake at 8:00 AM for our service projects. All students are expected to be in attendance for this event. Wear long pants, closed-toed shoes, and gloves, Bring rakes, hoes, shovels, clippers, etc. We have service projects going on in both Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain. We will meet at Westlake and then send students to project locations based on where they are most needed.

Service projects will end at 10:30 AM to allow students time to travel back to Westlake for lunch provided by Chick-fil-A at 11:00 AM. We will need a few parents to help supervise at each project, so we would love to have you join in if you would like to be involved.

While we are having lunch at Westlake after the service project, we will be setting up the chairs, stands, and percussion instruments for the Wind Symphony and Jazz Band performances for the gala, so please plan to help move these items to the commons area. We will also be finishing up our clothing drive that day by moving the bags of clothing from the Westlake trailer to the fundraiser trailer and will need student help for this transfer.

Wind Symphony and Advanced Jazz Ensemble will be performing at the gala that evening. Call times will be announced in classes this week. This is a required performance for these students. We will also need parent and student volunteers to serve the meal that evening (see information below) and help with the auction (contact Kelly Molinari at 630-222-8362 or kelly@ilhomepros.com).

Gala Ticket Sales

Thank you to those who have sold tickets to the gala. If you have anyone you are still waiting to follow up with, please do this immediately. We need to send a final count to the caterer today. The cutoff time for gala ticket sales is 12:00 noon today.

Please contact Charlotte Ducos immediately (cdducos@gmail.com) if you are aware of an order that may not have been processed yet. Thank you!

Gala Volunteers

We are so excited for the Rose Parade President’s Gala this Saturday, May 20. We have been working really closely with a lot of different people to make this evening a beautiful and successful event.

We need of a lot of volunteers that evening to make this evening a success. To sign up to help, go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e044daeaf23a13-presidents. Please read all the details at the top of the sign up page as they are very important. We are on a limited time line with the caterer and knowing the details is imperative.

Gala Auction Donations

Please bring your auction donation items to Westlake tonight (Monday, May 15) at 6:30 PM. Kelly Molinari will be parked in a red Dodge Caravan near the band trailer. If this time does not work for you, contact Kelly at kelly@ilhomepros.com or 630-222-8362 to make other arrangements.

Our final date for clothing drive donations is this Saturday, May 20. Please drop off all remaining bags of clothing that morning as students arrive at 8:00 AM or as the service project is ending at 11:00 AM.

The band trailer is just over half full right now. We would love to fill the rest of the trailer, so keep gathering and bring the bags on May 20th!

Update Contact Information in Charms

Please log in to Charms as soon as possible to update your contact information. Charms is the software we use to keep track of contact information and to send our weekly emails. We were hoping to transfer information from Register My Athlete into Charms, but the conversion will not work, so we need all parents and students to verify their information.

To verify your information, go to www.thunderband.com and scroll all the way to the bottom to the Links and click on Charms. If you have not logged in before, the password is normally your child’s student number. After you log in, you can set your own password. Please make sure all contact information is up to date, and all other fields are filled in as well.

If you are not able to log in using your student’s ID number, reply to this email for assistance.
