Rose Parade Tour Registration Deadline Extended

We received word from Bob Rogers Travel that they have extended the deadline to register for the Rose Parade tour. The final registration deadline is Wednesday, March 8. All registrations for the tour must be completed by this date. Hotels will be booked and all remaining rooms released the next day. If you have questions, please contact Charlotte Ducos (cdducos@gmail.com).

Fundraiser Information Meeting

This Wednesday, March 8, we will be holding a parent meeting regarding fundraising for the upcoming season. The meeting will be held at 7:00 PM in the lecture hall (Room C139) at Westlake High School. Enter through the main entrance doors when you arrive at the high school.

We will go through all fundraising opportunities, hand out paperwork, and answer questions. We will record this meeting and post a link for those who cannot attend but we encourage all who are available to attend!

 Reminder: Submit Your Receipts

Please submit a copy or your receipt for any payment made for band expenses to Shawna Ivins. You can email a copy to Shawna at sivins4@gmail.com or place a printed copy in the envelope on Mr. Mangelson’s door. This includes deposits, payments for shoes and polo shirts, and all other band fee payments, whether for marching band or other band classes.

Currently, we have 164 students registered for the upcoming season, but have received only 147 deposit receipts. If you have not emailed your receipt or put in in the envelope on Mr. Mangelson’s door, please submit your receipt as soon as possible. Thank you!

Booster Meeting Minutes

Thank you to those who attended our booster meeting last Wednesday. The meeting minutes can be accessed here. If you have been looking for a way to help out the band, please see the notes for a list of specific positions we are looking to fill and details on who to contact to get signed up.

Equipment Transportation Needs

We need a parent (or parents) to pull the equipment trailer to our upcoming band festivals. If you are planning to go watch your student perform or if you would like a reason to, this is a great way to help out the band and be there for the performance.

We have festival performances on the following dates:

  • State Jazz Festival: Friday or Saturday, March 24 or 25 (final date TBD)
  • Region Band Festival: Wednesday, March 29, leaving at 1:00 PM
  • State Band Festival: (pending qualification) May 4 or 5 (final date TBD)

If you are available to help out on these dates, please contact Mr. Mangelson at bmangelson@alpinedistrict.org. A pickup truck or suburban with the capability to pull using a ball hitch will do the job. Thank you!

Concert Schedule Change

Due to schedule conflicts, the dates for the spring band concert and wind symphony region festival have been switched. This is not an addition to the calendar, just a change in dates. The new dates are:

  • March 29 – 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM – Wind symphony region festival
  • March 30 – Concert and symphonic band region festival (during the school day)
  • March 30 – 7:00 PM – Spring band concert

Service Project Coordinators Needed

The 2018 Rose Parade theme is “Making a Difference.” In keeping with this theme, we are interested in finding a parent volunteer or group of volunteers to head up periodic service opportunities for band members. These do not need to be big or time consuming projects, just small opportunities to make a difference in our community. If you are interested in helping with this, please contact Charlotte Ducos at cdducos@gmail.com.

Winter Guard Congratulations

Congratulations to our winter guard teams for a fantastic showing at Lone Peak this past weekend and thank you to all of those who contributed food to feed the teams. Our four winter guard teams scored first place and one second place finish.

You can see them in action on Saturday, March 18, at the competition at Westlake High School. Go Thunder!

Clothing Drive Reminder

Are you collecting clothing for our clothing drive? Funds go towards uniforms and may also help lower the costs of our Rose Parade tour. We will be paid by weight for the clothing collected. See the flyer that was sent with last week’s email for more details. Spread the word and start gathering today!
