The 2013 season is officially beginning today, May the 14th, with our first practice after school. Please check the calendar regularly to stay up to date. Ready or not, here we go!
Today the Wind Symphony played at the Utah State Concert Band Festival. They played wonderfully and received superior ratings (all 1′s) from each judge. They were only 1 of five bands to get straight ones across the whole state! This is the fourth year in a row (every year since the school’s opening) that the Wind Symphony has qualified to play at the state festival. Congratulations on an incredible performance.
On April 18, the Westlake Concert, Symphonic and Wind Symphony bands performed three selections each at the region concert band festival at Herriman H.S. This was the first year that Westlake high school brought three separate concert bands to the festival. All three groups performed very well and received high praise from the judges. The Wind Symphony received straight superior ratings and qualified to play at the State Festival in May. Murray High School also qualified from our region. The band will play at the State Festival on May 4th at 11:30 am in the Jordan high school auditorium.
On Saturday March, 21st the Westlake Advanced Jazz Ensemble played at the state jazz festival. The students played 3 selections and performed them extremely well. All the judges agreed and rewarded the group with straight 1s, a superior rating and the highest rating a group can receive. They were only 1 of 7 groups in the state to do so. Well done thunder band and congrats!
Thank you for your desire to be a part of The Westlake High School Colorguard. The response was incredible and we were so proud of everyone for trying out. Below are the results of the auditions. Congratulations to those whom are listed! Please remember to be at the Marching Band Step-off Meeting next Tuesday, April 23rd, at 7pm in the Westlake H.S. auditorium.
